Transportation
By plane into Victoria International Airport, YYJ
Note that Victoria is located in an island off the continent, and it
takes about 3.5 hours to drive from the city of Vancouver into
Victoria. For this reason, it is more efficient to fly directly into
Victoria's international airport, YYJ. There are direct flights from
Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, Calgary, and Toronto.
From the airport, you can take the YYJ airport shuttle service (kiosk
by the baggage carousels for tickets), which costs C$24-$29 depending
on where you are going. A taxi from the airport to UVic costs C$50,
and from the airport to downtown costs C$60 (Taxis accept all Major
Credit, Debit Cards, and U.S. currency).
By bus from Vancouver
Pacific Coach Lines provides bus
transportation from Vancouver International airport and downtown Vancouver into Victoria.
Note that the trip takes 3.5 to 4 hours.
Getting around in Victoria
While on campus lodging is the most convenient option (walking distance from the
conference venue - see lodging section), it is quite easy to commute from downtown
Victoria into the UVic campus.
There are many buses that go from downtown Victoria into UVic (e.g. buses #4, #11 or
#14); it takes 20-30 minutes and the fare costs C$2.50 (exact change needed). The
conference venue is at the first bus stop once the bus enters the campus.
A taxi from downtown Victoria into UVic's campus takes 10-15 minutes and costs about
C$20 (Yellow Cab phone number 1-800-808-6881). Tell the cab driver to drive on the ring
road and to turn left on the parking lot just after the sign "Bob Wright building".
